Question: What is 'real-time supply chain'?
Answer: In the 2008 Logistics and Fleet Management Systems conference document, it is stated that 'the logistics industry is still chasing the holy grail of total redundancy in the supply chain with seamless and transparent information transfer." Typically, fleet or inventory management data is not used through out the whole supply chain - it is captured and used within its own system for single purpose applications. AppLocation allows this 'location-aware' information to be shared with the fleet's client - for business process, planning, accounting and dispatch plus integrate the inventory tracking systems via bar-code, RFID and RTLS. Our products are an alliance between fleet telematics and logistics solutions.

Question: Do you only work with telecom carriers?
Answer: No. We are proud partners with major telecom carriers. They call us because we have server side location based services and thin client technology experience that they can rely on plus we can build custom applications ‘to need’ quickly. We provide hosted and licensed data applications for their clients that run on their telecom systems; AVL GPS Tracking for Fleet Management, Work Force Management, wireless asset tracking using active RFID tags over WiFi backbone, tag to tag real time asset locating systems or RTLS, and location based services or LBS using handsets and mobile forms. However, our client base ranges from medium size companies to multi-national firms because of our experience deploying a wide range of asset locating technology and our thorough understanding of mobile resource management (MRM), telematics, and integration requirements. Regardless of their size, our clients look for new ways to find savings in their operations using location-based services and business mobility solutions. Our clients know they need logistics technology for real-time supply chain visibility, inventory/asset locating and/or wireless data collection. The goal is to compete in today's competitive world of rising customer expectations - though our clients often need assistance in moving from concept to reality, deciding which MRM location technology to use in order to optimize their return on investment.

Question: Who needs the information from your system?
Answer: Any company with mobile resources that needs to save money by improving operations. The line of business transactions could come from finance, supply chain, logistics. Security and visibility into chain of custody are reasons to install a real time asset tracking program and integrate it into an ERP. This is the concept behind 'real-time supply chain' - knowing where goods and parts are in real time. This requires careful thought to the various locating technologies and expertise in implementing the system since the 'locate' is the critical part of business analytics. Mobile resource management, GPS or RFID location data typically flows into a cache where our algorithms make decisions about whether or not an 'exception' event has occurred. For example – if we are tracking a vehicle, the event might be a temporal or spatial geo-fence. If the vehicle leaves a particular area after midnight it could trigger an alarm to the Operations Clerk via email or cell phone. This event can escalate if there is no response. If the event happens again, the alert escalates up the ladder to a pre-determined person, for example, VP Operations. All the data is logged though only the exception is reported. Keeping track of what is on the transporting vehicle increases the value of the wireless line of business transaction. Adding active or passive RFID tags for inventory or real time asset tracking adds to the ROI of GPS tracking system and improves fleet dock operations.

Question: What is the link between RFID and LBS?
Answer: MOBILEFusion provides the link between RFID and telco 'location-based services' or LBS for mobile resource management. The automatic identification (auto-id) and tracking worlds have traditionally been made up of discrete hardware and software systems for different applications. In the distribution, warehousing and manufacturing field tracking assets is usually handled by barcode, passive and active RFID and real time locating systems that send data into Work in Progress (WIP)/Warehouse Management System (WMS) and/or ERP software. Outdoors for yard management, high value and mobile asset tracking is accomplished with RSSI or TDOA active RFID or GPS that works with software typically from the RTLS provider or from a third party provider. Automative Vehicle Tracking or AVL and Fleet Management use GPS linked to cellular or satellite networks to track moving assets. Location Based Services or LBS using cellular networks and Assisted GPS for indoor and outdoor tracking of cellphones and PDAs. LBS offers an alternative to the traditional vehicle-centric GPS market. With the correct combination of handsets, carrier, application and geographical location (density of cellular towers), indoor location is achievable. AppLocation has the knowledge and experience of not only LBS but also GPS and RFID and RTLS to determine an appropriate mix of technologies. The latest trend are handsets enabled with barcode and RFID readers specific for enterprise applications further demonstrating the blurring lines between LBS and RFID. However, integration of RFID data on a telco handset is not a trivial matter - it requires telco experience and a telco grade platform. All users can find logistical efficiencies from asset tracking technology but not if they have to rip out existing infrastructure or if the initial capital costs are too high. MOBILEFusion was built specifically to allow users to retain the software and hardware that makes sense and scale out the system as your budget and timeline allows with mobility solutions. On an integrated, web-based platform. When the AVL Fleet is ready to scale out to RFID tracking, AppLocation can help. MOBILE Fusion enables the bridging of RFID and LBS systems - indoor or outdoor, mobile, wireless, satellite, cellular – supply chain, logistics - business logic or ERP – and apps delivered on wireless handheld devices - it’s all data to us.

Question: We don't want an Enterprise System that will define our IT operations for the next decade, cost millions and overwhelm us with bloatware we don’t need or understand.
Answer: Neither do we! Think of it this way – you have already invested in an ERP. All you need is a way to get location and tracking data you need into what already exists and ‘go mobile’. The technology exists - why do you need to have a band of business analysts in your IT department telling you what you already know about your operations? The technology exists – you just have to layer it on what exists and make the systems talk to each other – it really is that simple. No techno speak, no feeds and speeds, no multi year contracts and exorbitant fees. Let the CTOs talk and the rest of us will get on with business. Don’t you just want a system that works? Reliably. Globally. 24/7.

Question: Why did you develop MOBILEFusionTM?
Answer: We began with the end in mind. At first our President thought he had lazy developers. They kept saying that they didn’t want to re-write code and that they just wanted to do it right the first time and go biking. It turned out that they were on to something - they called it by a project name – PathFinder, named for an SUV- which you might see in some of our earlier literature. Four years ago, long before industry analysts were talking about neutral platforms, AppLocation developers started to create a true Telco grade hardware and software neutral platform so they wouldn’t have to re-write code every time they had to integrate another API. We still have the same crew so they must be happy with the result. And they still have time to go biking.
